The Pinnacle

As I'm thinking more about photography again these days I've been considering what sort of pictures I want to take.  Obviously I want to take 'good' pictures, i.e.well exposed and composed and things (and that's not a given yet, I think I still have tonnes to learn).  More importantly I think I want to take pictures that can show something of God's greatness, which might naturally lead you to think about landscapes - glaciers and mountains are always impressive after all!  The trouble with that is that it feels to me like most of those photos have already been taken, and those things are not the things that best express God's impressiveness anyway.

So, what does?  People do.  I believe that you and I are the bit of this whole universe that God put most effort into - and even if you don't agree with me or don't believe wouldn't it be good if we acted like we believed that? It's pictures I've taken of people that I find most interesting.  Photos of animals, or racing cars, or sunsets are all good, but people fit in a whole different category.

I'm always a little sad about people who don't like having their photo taken.  I wonder if something in the way we're all brought up convinces us that we've failed to be the pinnacle of creation that we should be.  Some people act like they are so hideous that a photo of them would destroy any lens that captured it, but the truth is they all have beauty.  I sometimes wonder how many of us have the ability and outlook to happily look in a mirror and celebrate what we see?  Or do most of us write that reflection off as not worth viewing?

So, I think I want to learn to take better pictures of people, and I want people to have less of a hang up about having their photo taken too!
